5mm Ceramic Trimmer Capacitor Features

As well as applications to small sized electronic apparatus, this series is designed for easy handing and is available with a variety of
adjustment method (top, buttom, side and double sides).

(1) Ensure that PCB hole spacing complies the terminal spacing requirement of the intended Trimmer Capacitor model. Incorrect hole spacing may lower Trimmer Capacitor performance due to excessive stress applied the terminal.

(2) Mount Trimmer Capacitor in contact with PCB.

(3) Do not apply bending stress after the Trimmer Capacitor has been mounted to the PCB.

(4) Note Trimmer Capacitor polarity to minimize the influence of stray Capacitance . Refer to the outlines of each model.

(5) Do not warp and /or bend PC board to prevent Trimmer Capacitor from breakage.

When measured at room temperature (25°C ± 5°C) and at a frequency of 0.1 to 1 Megahertz, the minimum capacitance shall not be greater than that specified at minimum setting  with a +10% tolerance and the maximum capacitance shall not be less than that specified maximum setting with a - 10% tolerance.

The capacitance drift shall be determined as the greatest difference between any two of the three 25°C measurements obtained during the temperature characteristic test.  The capacitance drift shall not exceed 0.75% or 0.5pF, whichever is greater.

Torque

The torque test should be done by rotating the rotor through one full turn within 15~100gf.cm. Please noted that it might cause the torque will decrease against the rotation increase

Vibration

The maximum capacitance was set at 80 to 90% , however it shall be subjected to vibration test at 1.5mm amplitude, with frequency range from 10 to 55 Hz ,and  then return to 10 Hz for 1 minute applied for 2 hours in each of three mutually perpendicular planes. (total 6 hours) The capacitor shall be rigidly mounted by their normal mounting means .The vibration capacitance shall be within  ±0.25pF or ±2% ( whichever is greater ).

Mounting

(1) Do not apply excessive force (preferably 5.0 N max.), when the trimmer capacitor  is mounted on the PCB.
(2) Do not warp and/or bend PCB to prevent trimmer capacitor from breaking.
(3) Use the suitable dimension of the pick-up nozzle (1.1-1.2mm external diameter and 0.8-0.9mm bore diameter).

Cleaning

Cannot be cleaned because of open construction.

Other

Note the polarity of the trimmer capacitor to minimize influence by stray capacitance.
(Refer to the dimensions concerning the polarity.)

The capacitor at approximately 75% of the guaranteed maximum capacitance, shall be tested for 250 hours at twice rated voltage, and at a temperature equal to the maximum operating temperature± 3°C for the respective style. At the end of this period the capacitance shall not have changed more than ±5% or ±0.5pF, whichever is greater, from its value before the life test. The I.R. shall be 1 gigaohm minimum and the“Q” at 1 MHz shall be a minimum of 40% of the initial test limit.

Chip Trimmer Capacitors, TSC3S Series, are miniature and ultra-thin type surface mounting device, and are recommended for miniaturization of electronic equipment.

The capacity drift after adjustment is very low and having a very thin dustproof structure, these capacitors are most suited to the fine adjustment of items.

(1) Ceramic Trimmer Capacitor series can be soldered by flow soldering method and soldering iron. Do not use reflow soldering method.

(2) Soldering condition If the soldering conditions are not suitable, e.g., excessive time and/or excessive temperature, the trimmer capacitor may deviate from the specified characteristics.

(3) The dimension of mounting hole should be Murata's standard mounting hole used at flow soldering. The amount of solder is critical. Insufficient amounts of solder can lead to insufficient soldering strength on PCB. Excessive amounts of solder may cause bridging between the terminals or contact failure due to flux wicking up.

(4) When using soldering iron, the string solder should be applied to the lower part of the terminal only. Do not apply flux except to the terminals. Excessive amounts of solder and/or applying solder to the upper part of the terminal may cause fixed rotor or the contact failure due to flux invasion into the movable part and/or the contact point. The soldering iron should not come in contact with the plastic case of the trimmer capacitor. If such contact does occur, the trimmer capacitor may be damaged.

(5) Our recommended chlorine content of string solder is 0.5wt% max.

(6) Do not use water-soluble flux (for water cleaning). To prevent the deterioration of trimmer capacitor characteristics, apply flux only to terminals.

1. Do not use the trimmer capacitor under atmosphere of RTV silicone rubber (Room Temperature Vulcanizing Silicone Rubber) except Acetone liberating silicone sealant.

2. Before using trimmer capacitor, please store under the condition of -10 to +40 degrees C and 30% to 85%RH.

3. Do not store in or near corrosive gasses.

4. Use within 6 months of delivery.

5. Do not store under direct sunlight.

6. Do not use the trimmer capacitor under the conditions listed below.

(1) Corrosive gasses atmosphere (ex. Chlorine gas, Hydrogen sulfide gas, Ammonia gas, Sulfuric acid gas, Nitric oxide gas, etc.)

(2) In liquid (ex. water, oil, medical liquid,organic solvent, etc.)

(3) Dusty / dirty atmosphere

(4) Direct sunlight

(5) Static voltage nor electric/magnetic fields

(6) Direct sea breeze

(7) Other variations of the above
