Suntan Tells You Chinese Traditonal Festival - Dragon Boat Festival

Many people around China are anticipating the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on Thursday this year, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to Chinese Lunar Calendar. For thousands of years, the festival has been marked by eating zong zi (glutinous rice) wrapped to form a pyramid using bamboo or reed leaves) and racing dragon boats. 

The festival is also best known for its dragon-boat races, especially in the southern provinces where there are many rivers and lakes. This regatta commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, a loyal minister who was said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river. The races are held among different clans, villages and organizations, and the winners are awarded medals, banners, jugs of wine and festive meals.

The Mother's Day has just gone on May 8. As most of our sales team members are mothers now, it becomes more and more meaningful for Suntan Group. Now l'd like to introduce this holiday briefly.

Mother's Day, founded by Anna Jarvis in the early twentieth century, has become an international festival and is accepted by many nations. Before making its way to the Chinese mainland, Mother's Day was very energetic in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Each year, on the second Sunday of May, Chinese people express love to their mothers in a variety of ways. Precious jewelry, beautiful carnation, special love desserts and handmade greeting cards have become the love gifts given to mothers. To a certain extent, Bon Odori Festival on lunar July 15 can be regarded as Japan's "Mother's Day". This festival has a story about a filial son named Mulian. According to the legend, Mulian's mother was very cruel and not respectful of Buddhism, so after her death she was sent to the hell where all the evil souls were punished. Mulian was determined to save his mother. Suffering a lot of bitterness, he finally helped his mother to change by persuasion and saved her. Therefore, on lunar July 15, people have the habits of worshipping their late ancestors and giving gifts to their lovely mothers.

The Qingming is one of the 24 seasonal division points in China, falling on April 4-6 each year. After the festival, the temperature will rise up and rainfall increases. It is the high time for spring plowing and sowing. But the Tomb-sweeping Day is not only a seasonal point to guide farm work, it is more a festival of commemoration. This is the most important day of sacrifice. Both the Han and minority ethnic groups at this time offer sacrifices to their ancestors and sweep the tombs of the diseased.
