It is learned that the traditional lead tantalum capacitor market demand has decreased year by year, chip tantalum capacitor market demand will increase year by year. Dealers said that despite the high prices of tantalum capacitors because of the market share in the capacitance ceramic capacitors and aluminum eroded, but also the development of its own saved for the long-term stability of the environment, which cater to the development trend of electronic products, chip on their products dominated by reversing the very most of the market.

The reliability of the solid tantalum capacitor is heavily influenced by environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, shock, vibration, mechanical stresses, and electric stresses, including applied voltage, current, ripple current, transient current and voltage, and frequency. The tantalum foil capacitor was introduced around 1950. It was developed to provide a more reliable form of electrolytic capacitor without the shelf life limitations of the aluminium electrolytic capacitor. It was able to be developed as a result of the availability of high purity tantalum foils and wires. Initially plain foil variants were introduced, but this was quickly followed by etched variants.

The purity of the materials used plays a major part in determining the leakage current of this type of tantalum capacitor.

Tantalum capacitors are manufactured from a powder of pure tantalum metal pressed to form a slug around a tantalum wire and subsequently vacuum sintered at high temperature. The resulting slug, although of high mechanical strength and density, is also highly porous giving a large internal surface area. This forms the positive "plate" of the capacitor. A dielectric layer of tantalum pentoxide is anodized on the surface of the tantalum anode, the cathode is formed by layers of manganese dioxide. Electrical contact is established by the deposition of carbon onto the surface of the "slug". The cathode connection is then made by means of conductive contact to a lead frame. Packaging is carried out to meet individual specification and customer requirements.
