Our Suntan Technology always pay much attention on brand name building and marketing investment. Here we would like to introduce TS17R to everyone.

Based on different material, Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors can be divided to a lot of series. 
There are some code name for each materail : NPO(COG), X7R,X5R,Z5U,Y5V,Y5U.

By refer to EIA standard, ceramic capacitors are break down into three categories: 
CLASS I : COG(NPO), also called “temperature compensation” type, It is temperature stable or compensating device, it shows very little or no changes in capacitance as temperature change, suitable for timing, impedance matching, ESD/EMI limiting. 
CLASS II : X7R,X5R,Z5U,Y5V, also called “high K” type, those material present greater capacitance change than class I type, a variety of dielectric materials are available thus the amount of capacitance change is to be defined from vendor to vendor.
CLASS III : is semiconductor type which exhibit capacitance change similar to class II, however, this type is very rare in consumer application.

Since 1978, Suntan Technology Company Limited started in selling all kinds of capacitors from our headquarters in Hong Kong, which of course include the ceramic disc capacitor. But what is ceramic disc capacitor? Many people don't really know, Suntan would like to introduce it now.  

A ceramic disc capacitor is a capacitor constructed with a ceramic disc as the dielectric. You'll recall that the basic definition of a capacitor is two conductors separated by an insulator (dielectric) of some kind. As a charge is driven onto one plate of a capacitor, the extra charge there builds up an electric field. Each charge arriving on one plate forces a charge off the other plate. Charge (and, therefore, voltage) builds. 

After reading the introduction of ceramic disc capacitor, in order to help clients enhance understanding, here take a Suntan products for example . This product is Suntan ceramic disc capacitor - TS15. Suntan ceramic chip capacitor is not only including TS15, of course, also including the TS16, TS17 ,etc.

Data shows that more and more people start using multi-layer ceramic capacitors/MLCC, and increasingly optimistic about their new circuit design applications. In the past five to ten years, MLCC and tantalum capacitor capacitance of unit volume has been increased 10 to 100 times as before, MLCC application areas have gradually expanded to previously dominated by the tantalum capacitor site. Currently, MLCC and tantalum capacitors is competing between 1.0 to 100uF market. Many circuit design found that the new generation of large capacitance MLCC can better meet their needs, and higher production level (currently producing about 600 billion, and tantalum capacitors for 25 billion). Moreover, manufacturers of basic metal electrode and technological improvements have greatly reduced the cost of MLCC, which also increased victory chips for MLCC occupation tantalum capacitor market.

And at present ceramics are most cost affective in small sizes. Very large ceramics are a bit of a challenge, especially in SMD.

Ceramic capacitors are suitable for moderately high-frequency work (into the high hundreds of megahertz range, or, with great care, into the low gigahertz range), as modern ceramic caps are fairly non-inductive compared to the other major classes of capacitors (film and electrolytic). Capacitor technologies with higher self-resonant frequencies tend to be expensive and esoteric (typically, mica or glass capacitors).

Ceramic capacitors are constructed with materials such as titanium acid barium used as the dielectric. Internally, these capacitors are not constructed as a coil, so they can be used in high frequency applications. Typically, they are used in circuits which bypass high frequency signals to ground.

These capacitors have the shape of a disk. Their capacitance is comparatively small.

• The capacitor on the left is a 100pF capacitor with a diameter of about 3 mm.
• The capacitor on the right side is printed with 103, so 10 x 103pF becomes 0.01 µF. The diameter of the disk is about 6 mm.
• Ceramic capacitors have no polarity.
• Ceramic capacitors should not be used for analog circuits, because they can distort the signal.

The multilayer ceramic capacitor has a many-layered dielectric. These capacitors are small in size, and have good temperature and frequency characteristics.

Square wave signals used in digital circuits can have a comparatively high frequency component included.

This capacitor is used to bypass the high frequency to ground.

• In the photograph, the capacitance of the component on the left is displayed as 104. So, the capacitance is 10 x 104 pF = 0.1 µF. The thickness is 2 mm, the height is 3 mm, the width is 4 mm.
• The capacitor to the right has a capacitance of 103 (10 x 103 pF = 0.01 µF). The height is 4 mm, the diameter of the round part is 2 mm.
• These capacitors are not polarized. That is, they have no polarity.
