3% vs 5% Crossover Capacitors: Suntan TS27 Options

When specifying a crossover capacitor, the capacitance value is only part of the requirement. Tolerance defines the permitted deviation from that nominal value and deserves its own line in the component specification.
For example, a nominal 10 µF capacitor with ±3% tolerance has a specified interval of 9.7–10.3 µF. At ±5%, that interval becomes 9.5–10.5 µF. These figures describe tolerance limits, not measurements of a particular production batch.
Start with the design requirement
Specify ±3% when the design calls for that tolerance. If ±5% meets the requirement, compare suitable options on their complete specifications rather than treating a tighter tolerance as an automatic sound-quality upgrade.
If measured matching between components matters to your project, include that as a separate inquiry. A tolerance specification alone does not document the measured difference between two selected capacitors.
Compare the Suntan TS27 options
Within the Suntan audio capacitor range:
- TS27A Classic: metallized polypropylene, 0.047–100 µF, with 250, 400 and 630 VDC options and ±3% or ±5% tolerance.
- TS27B Advanced and TS27C Prime: metallized polypropylene, 0.1–100 µF, with 250, 400 and 630 VDC options and ±3% or ±5% tolerance.
- TS27D Signature: aluminum foil and metallized polypropylene, 1–10 µF, with 100 and 200 VDC options and ±3% tolerance.
These are series-level ranges. Confirm the specific capacitance, voltage, tolerance and dimensions together; not every combination should be assumed available.
Make the inquiry easy to evaluate
Provide your target capacitance, required tolerance, operating conditions, available mounting space and quantity. For an existing design, include the current part number or drawing.
